Today we drove from Haast to Hokitika via the towns of Fox Glacier and Franz Joseph. At Fox Glacier, we decided on impulse to take a helicopter ride. Thirty minutes later, we were airborne, headed for the peaks and a landing on/near the Tasman Glacier. What a thrill ride! Not to be outdone, our hike around Lake Matheson afterwards was quite scenic.
