Today, we drove from Queenstown to Haast. We took a quick detour to Arrowtown--cute, but a little tourist. Then we stopped to watch a few people jump from Kawarau Bridge. Then we drove on through the winelands, with a quick stop at Lake Wanaka for a picnic lunch and then various stops along Lake Hawea for photos. From there, we entered Mt. Aspiring National Park, where we make multiple stops for short tracks (and almost lost our car once). Take your time going through this area. It's worth it!
